About
About Alliance Youth
Who we are
Alliance Youth is a political home in Northern Ireland for all young people aged 31 and under who want to live in a society which actively promotes inclusion, diversity and tolerance; and for young people across the globe who seek freedom and democracy for everyone, everywhere.
Consolidating the youth wing of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland and affiliated Alliance and liberal societies in universities and higher education institutions across Northern Ireland, Alliance Youth is united in its vision for a future free from tribal politics and sectarian carve-ups. We respect the rights of all individuals regardless of religion, gender, class, disability, colour, age, sexuality or nationality. We believe that our differences only make us stronger, and that they must be utilised in order to build a better, more prosperous, shared future. And we want the young people of today – in Northern Ireland and beyond – to take a proactive role in shaping that future.
What we do
Our members set the agenda on how we operate and which issues we tackle. We are headed by an executive of dedicated volunteers responsible for managing organisational development, running and promoting campaigns and events, and creating and sustaining viable links with the community, both local and international. Previous campaigns have tackled racism, child poverty, and human trafficking, as well as specific domestic issues facing young people, such as mental health provision, tuition fees, student debt and transport costs. Moves advocated by Alliance Youth members have seen, among others, the promotion of finance as a key election issue, and the development of a strong record on suicide prevention and LGBT rights.
Membership & partnership
We are members of LYMEC – European Liberal Youth, and the EU initiative Political Youth Wings, which brings together the young wings of each political party in Northern Ireland; and proud partners of Make Poverty History and the Anti-Racism Network. At a local level, we participate in the Inter-Isles Forum and North/South Forum, tackling diverse issues such as homelessness, sustainable transportation, and religious discrimination in politics.
Alliance Youth is leading real change for all young people across all of Northern Ireland – and beyond.
